Chimney repair // Little Rock

Chimney Repair, done right.

Water is the main enemy of a chimney.

It gets into brick and mortar, freezes, expands and cracks them from the inside.

Catching a small crack early beats chasing a big one later.

Jerry’s Chimney Sweep does chimney repairs all over Little Rock.

What it covers

Repairs Jerry looks at

  1. Cracked or crumbling crown

The crown is the top surface that sheds water off the chimney. When it cracks, rain gets into the masonry below.

  2. Missing or rusted cap

A cap keeps rain, leaves and nesting animals out of the flue. If yours is gone or rusted through, Jerry tells you what it needs.

  3. Leaking flashing

Flashing seals the joint where the chimney meets the roof. A gap there lets water run down along the chimney.

  4. Loose or missing mortar joints

Mortar holds the bricks together. When joints crumble or fall out, water gets in and the bricks start to loosen.

  5. Spalling or crumbling brick

Spalling is when the face of a brick flakes or pops off. Water that freezes and expands inside the brick can cause it.

  6. Damper, firebrick and liner

Jerry checks a damper that will not open or seal. Cracked firebrick and liner damage found at an inspection get the same look.

Signs a chimney needs repair

  • Cracks in the crown, the top surface of the chimney
  • Bricks with flaking faces, or mortar that crumbles when you touch it
  • Water stains on the ceiling or wall around the chimney

  • Cracked or missing firebrick inside the firebox
  • A chimney cap that is missing, bent or rusted

Little Rock

Water and Little Rock weather

Rain falls on every Little Rock chimney.

When a cold snap hits, any water inside the brick turns to ice and expands.

The damage builds slowly, out of sight.

Fixing a crack in the fall means water has less to work with when the cold arrives.

Chimney trouble comes in many forms, and we take on all repairs.

Questions

Chimney repair questions.

Still unsure? Call or text (501) 529-3779 and ask for Jerry.

What chimney repairs do you handle?

We take on all repairs.

The common ones are the crown, cap, flashing, mortar joints and spalling brick.

Others are the damper, firebrick and liner damage.

Jerry looks at it and tells you what it needs.

Why does water damage a chimney?

Water gets into brick and mortar, freezes, expands and cracks it.

A small crack lets in more water, which does more of the same.

That is why a gap at the crown or flashing is worth fixing early.

Do I need a repair or just a sweep?

A sweep cleans soot and creosote out of the chimney.

A repair deals with damaged parts.

If you are not sure which, Jerry looks at the chimney and tells you.

Do you spot repairs during other visits?

Yes.

A sweep or an inspection can turn up something small, like a loose joint or a rusted cap.

Jerry points it out and tells you what it needs, so nothing comes as a surprise.
